This pearling process is minimal; so much of the nutrient value of whole barley is retained.
Organic Pearled Barley is a popular nutritious grain with a mild nutty flavour, milder in flavour than barley grain. It is a good source of fibre, protein and B vitamins.
Organic pearled barley cooks faster than unhulled barley grain and is less chewy. It is a delicious alternative to rice, pasta or cous cous.
Best kept refrigerated or frozen to retain freshness.
How to Use: Organic Pearled Barley may be cooked and served as a side dish similar to rice or couscous. Cook together with rice or as a rice substitute.
Once cooked, it can be used in salads, to thicken soups, broths or stews or for stuffing. Add to soups and casseroles (may need to pre-cook). Pre-cooked Pearled Barley can even be added to baked goods.
To Cook: Simmer 1 part barley in 4 parts water for 30-45mins.
